Abilities: Gluttony, Blaze
HP: 75 Atk: 98 Def: 63 Spa: 98 Spd: 63 Spe: 101
Overview
Simisear is a majorly threatening special attacking sweeper thanks to its high Speed and great special attack, on top of its great coverage and ability to run mixed with knock off. On top of this, Simisear can run a plethora of sets such as sub salac, choice scarf, and life orb mixed. With some of the highest speed in the tier, the only things such as Persian, Electabuzz, Meowstic, and the ever present Lopunny. Simisear's ability to also take on the majority of defensive walls with relative ease thanks to its coverage makes it the premiere fire type and arguably the best pokemon in the tier.
Nasty Plot
Simisear @ Life Orb / Salac Berry
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature / Hasty Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Knock Off / Substitute / Grass Knot
- Fire Blast / Flamethrower
- Focus Blast
Moves
This is Simisear's bread and butter set. After a nasty plot, fire blast and focus blast dent a good chunk of the tier. Additionally, Grass Knot adds to the coverage, allowing Simisear to hit heavier water types that otherwise wall Simisear. Substitute is an option that allows simisear to set up nasty plots easier, and flamethrower is a safer option over fire blast if you prefer the accuracy. Knock off is a decent option despite not being boosted by nasty plot, as it allows it to cripple switchins like Wartortle, as well as hit counters like Lampent.
Set Details
Running maximum Speed and Special Attack investment allows Simisear to be as fast and powerful as possible. A Timid nature is preferred over Modest; although it has less power, but outspeeding base 100 Speed Pokemon and speed tying with the other simis is very important. Life orb allows Simisear to dent the entire tier easily, especially after blaze, but sub+salac allows for easier sweeps all together thanks to the boosted speed. Although substitute isn't reliable on mons that stay in, they're rather easy to set up since Simisear forces out so many mons with ease.
All-out Attacker
Simisear @ Life Orb / Choice Scarf
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Fire Blast
- Grass Knot
- Low Kick / Superpower
- Knock Off
Moves
Fire blast is your main stab option, as well as your nuclear option, and along with low kick allows you to hit the majority of the tier. Grass knot allows you to hit bulky waters as long as they weigh enough, as well as hitting Gigalith decently hard. Knock off is a great coverage option that allows Simisear to cripple the likes of Lairon, Electabuzz, and allows it to hit Lampent.
Set Details
Maximum Speed and Special Attack investment is used to outspeed all base 100 Speed Pokemon. A hasty nature increases Simisear's Speed without lowering its Attack. Although life orb is usually the better option, choice scarf can also be a great option, as 101 speed makes Simisear tied for the fastest viable scarf mon. Blaze is a great ability as it allows you to hit even harder when you're lower on hp. The extra 4 attack allows you to hit just a little harder.
Usage Tips
Simisear appreciates being on offensive teams with hazard removal. Additionally, having hazards on the field so Simisear can sweep better never hurts either. Simisear tends to shine late game as it's able clean very well, though it can also be used early came to try and snag some easy kills. Try not to reveal your physical moves too early into the match so you can catch mons like Lairon or Zweilous off guard.
Checks and Counters
Simisear tends to struggle with the likes of Electabuzz and Lampent when not using knock off. Mons like Phione and Seaking also counter Simisear but can be handled if they're worn down. Finally, scarf mons and mons that are faster tend to check Simisear unless it too is running scarf, Lopunny Sawsbuck and Raticate most notably. Residual damage also causes issues for Simisear since it's weak to all forms of hazards.
